Project Description

Nulight was approached by Tigress Films to scan and restore archive film for a new series to be broadcast on the National Geographic Channel.

The series, called Secrets in the Mist, tells the story of the life, work, murder and legacy of gorilla researcher Dian Fossey, using excerpts of her own diary read by Sigourney Weaver.

Much of the film was shot on 8mm and 16mm colour reversal by students of Dian Fossey or visiting cameramen. Much of the film had faded or become discoloured with age and so after scanning required digital restoration.

Speaking after release of the series, Sarah Peat, Executive producer on the series, said:

“Nulight Studios undertook the scanning and restoration of various reels of archive footage for our series ‘Dian Fossey: Secrets in the Mist’. Even when working to tight deadlines, Nulight delivered to a very high standard.”

As the first collaboration between Tigress Films and Nulight Studios it was a great experience for both companies. Sarah Peat describes working with Nulight:

“As producers, the workflow process was simple and easy, their staff a pleasure to work with and pricing estimates were always accurate. I highly recommend Nulight’s services.”

Secrets in the Mist first aired December 2017 on The National Geographic Channel.
